Evidently I like to paint under pressure…

or maybe I like avoiding my mile long To-Do list…

or perhaps I just need to relax and a painting project would to the trick…

well for whatever reason I decided to take on a little painting project 3 days before my 20 Thanksgiving guests arrived!

Did I really have time for this project?

Nope, but sometimes I need to step away from all the To-Do lists and do something I enjoy !

Scrubbing floors and toilets could wait!

I failed to take a before picture(grrr) but here is the after pic…

Large Frame (23″x 29″): $1 from a flea market *previously unfinished wood.

Star Candle Holder: $3 at Home Goods *previously dark brown witch blended into the black iron stand.

Canoe Paddle: $5 at a flea market *previously without the 34.

After I painted everything I hit them with sandpaper to give them each a more distressed look.

The paddle turned out to be my favorite! I offset the two numbers so they didn’t look too perfect.

By distressing the numbers to matched the condition of the paddle, it made it look like the numbers were originally a part of it…

Reminding me of the canoe rentals in northern Minnesota.

Creating A Personalized Calendar

When was the last time something came in the mail for you and it caused you to jumped up and down with excitement??

For me it had been a while…

Ok, maybe it had been years…

But last week I literally did jump up and down when my new calendar arrived in the mail!!

I’ll explain.

This year I was determined to go online & make a personalized calendar.

I had tried to create one in the past but the themes always seemed too cheesy or the program took ages to work.

So, for the past 2 years that type of problem had caused me give up.

This year I was determined to finally find a site that could help me make the calendar I’d been day dreaming about!

That’s when I found Mixbook!

No I don’t work for Mixbook and I certainly  don’t get any perks for giving them such a rave review.

I am just a happy thoroughly happy customer!!

The program on their site worked flawlessly.

Uploading, adding,  removing & resizing pictures only took seconds instead of 10 minutes per change.

I could pick a theme to start with but then tweak details to make it “mine”.

I was able to personalize each family member’s birthday/anniversary by putting a picture of them on that day! (coolest feature ever!)

Not only that but I could add stickers or text wherever I wanted to.

I could change the layouts to work with the photos I had to work with.

Here is this month…

After it arrived in the mail I STILL continued to be impressed!

I had been afraid the pages might turn out to be thin/cheap but they weren’t!

The materials were definitely high quality.

Everything was just like I had designed it online & now I am one happy calendar owner!

Sometimes it’s the little things in life!

So if you are thinking about making your own calendar I bet you know who I would recommend!

Do you have a craving for some Dried Bat Wings?
Lizard Tongues?
Goblin Eyeballs?
Mummy Hearts?
How about some Witch Warts?
Oh well, more for us!
This past Halloween weekend my little boy & I had a blast creating  what we call “Spooky Snacks”!
The best part of this was seeing my boy being creative & excited about something we were working on together!

I took 5 different size jars & filled them with the following goodies:

  • Dried Bat Wings- Black Licorice
  • Mummy Hearts- White Fudge Covered Pretzels
  • Witch Warts- Chocolate & Peanut Butter Chips
  • Goblin Eyeballs- Individually Wrapped Chocolate Eyeballs (not sure of their actual name)
  • Lizard Tongues-  Fruit Roll-Ups

Then we cut the paper to make tags so that each of our Spooky Snacks could be labeled properly! Next time I would make the tags a little smaller but we used what we had on hand & it worked out just fine!

My  mother-in-law made this cute pumpkin (made with cupcakes) for us too!
He was almost too cute to eat…….. almost!
